The February meeting of the Fostoria Coin Club was called to order on February 16th, 2026, at 7:30pm, by President Colvin, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. There were 29 members and 2 guests present.
The minutes were read and revised to reflect that the club approved Gary's request for the website renewal cost. The treasury report was read and revised to note a payment was for the club's website not for the club's Facebook account.
Illnesses: No known illnesses, but it was noted that Dan Moore, one of our regular dealers from Monroe, MI, had passed away.
OLD BUSINESS:
Vini presented the Christmas half dollars to 2 members. Remaining ones will be prizes at the show.
SHOW BUSINESS:
Sara reported publicity expenses to run $204. She reported the food situation is all set too.
Roger Geyman will post on 70 facebook pages for free, as in past years.
Cody reported he has secured 9 dealers/19 tables, and still waiting on numerous to respond.
Members duplicate table: Eric requests that members have their items clearly marked with prices. Eric also has the hourly door prize tickets.
Setup to be Saturday – need volunteers at the LC and to get tables. Initial plan is begin at noon. Need 18 tables plus the club's 6' tables, plus 42 chairs. Vini will have table covers.
Vini and Cody will handle the 8 signs around town.
The registration crew will use the sign up sheets, and Vini will sponsor the 1st year of dues for new members that sign up at the show.
Raffle tickets – we need everyone selling them. Vini is holding 350 back for the show.
Hourly door prizes – we will have Jr & Sr – a member will need to call out the winning # in the rooms as the PA System does not allow people to hear thru out the building.
The announcer is Scott. Security is being arranged by Chuck using Luke Elchert of FPD.
Vini and Gary are handling the electrical.
All are encouraged to volunteer.
NEW BUSINESS:
President Colvin suggested a review of the club's by laws, as it has been since 2019 that it was last done. He suggested a committee to form to do this. Vini has copies of the by laws for new members (or any members who need a copy). The club discussed and decided to table this topic until after the coin show, so it will be revisited in the April meeting.
Fliers were distributed for the 2026 Westland MI show (March 6-7), Vic will be a dealer there.
Vini showed a 2026 Mayflower quarter he found.
The website is up to date and paid.
Bob showed a silver Fiji Coca Cola dollar.
Gary reported that a Columbus dealer was shot and killed (Hal Moore) – shooter was caught.
Cody spoke about the $10 million heist from the Scottsdale mint, where a semi had 4 skids of silver coins. Perpetrators were caught.
Vic has 2026 Silver Eagles for sale.
PRESENTATION:
Chuck spoke about Capped Bust half dollars, how dies were numbered, reference books, and how dies were re-punched resulting in over-dates. Examples were passed around.
Vic and Gary made a motion and second to adjourn the meeting. Door prizes and an auction followed.
